Career-oriented - Ex-Hansa-Professional HuISING: 'We cannot cower and hide'

Above all for health reasons, Oliver Hüsing, as stated by himself, ended his professional football career at Second League relegator Hansa Rostock and switched to Werder Bremen's performance center. After the relegation with Rostock, he had thought about the question of when the right time was to retire, so as not to end up crawling off the pitch at some point, the 31-year-old told the "Deichstube" in an interview.

It would have been certain that there would still be another one or two years at a good professional level, he said. However, there have been many phases where I didn't exactly wrap my body in cotton, where I played injured, several games in a row, Hüsing recounted.

Joints don't look rosy

"I had recent examinations where my joints were looked at. That doesn't look rosy, as permanent damage was detected," he said. "However, I want to stay somewhat fit in the future and not completely ruin my body."

Before the previous season, he returned to Arminia Bielefeld, the former Second League relegator, from Rostock, where he had played from 2019 to 2022. As a center back, he made 15 Second League appearances in the previous season.

Return to the youth club

With his transfer as an employee to Werder Bremen's performance center, he is returning to his youth club. From 2004 to a departure to Ferencvaros Budapest in 2016, he went through all the youth teams and made three Bundesliga appearances. In the performance center, he will support the new management duo Ralf Heskamp and Marc Dommer. "For me, it will be all about learning a lot from the two, who bring a very large experience pool with them," he said. "I will be very diligent, absorb everything, and learn the job from A to Z." I will try to make a good job, so that the youth sector gains momentum.

  1. Oliver Hüsing, being career-oriented, sought to continue his involvement in soccer even after retiring as a player due to health concerns.
  2. Despite his successful stint in the 3. League with Werder Bremen's rival, Hansa Rostock, Hüsing chose to switch to Bremen's performance center.
  3. With his transfer, Hüsing is returning to his roots, having spent several years in Werder Bremen's youth teams before moving to Ferencvaros Budapest in 2016.
  4. The Bundesliga club is currently under the management of Ralf Heskamp and Marc Dommer, and Hüsing expressed his excitement to learn from their wealth of experience.
  5. Hüsing's role in Bremen's performance center is to support the new management duo and contribute to the development of the youth sector in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
  6. In a bid to ensure a smooth transition into his new role and contribute positively to Werder Bremen's youth development, Hüsing pledged to be diligent, learn the job thoroughly, and make a significant impact.
