Ex-girlfriend stalked and killed? Man remains silent in court
A 43-year-old man has to stand trial for allegedly stalking and killing his ex-girlfriend. The public prosecutor's office is accusing him of assault and stalking resulting in death at the Constance district court. The German is said to have initially hidden the body of the 21-year-old from Eigeltingen (district of Constance) after the crime in February. He then made her disappear, according to the indictment. There is still no trace of the young woman.
The accused did not want to comment on the accusations or his circumstances at the start of the trial. Since the beginning of the investigation against him, the man has remained silent about the allegations. He was arrested around a week after the woman disappeared. He has been in custody since February 25.
Based on cell phone data, the investigators assume that the 43-year-old killed his ex-girlfriend on the night of February 19. He is said to have gained access to her apartment with a spare key and drugged her.
Stalking allegations against the accused
According to the investigation, he is said to have secretly tracked her whereabouts. He is said to have installed a GPS transmitter in her car for this purpose. He is said to have called up her location between 9 and 57 times a day. The prosecution also accuses him of secretly taking photos and videos of the woman in her home. According to the public prosecutor's office, he used a meter-long selfie stick with which he held his cell phone up to a window. He is also said to have filmed her having sex with her new boyfriend.
According to the court, the victim and the alleged perpetrator were a couple from August 2021 to October 2022. The accused is said to have hit the young woman so hard in the face shortly after the break-up that two of her incisors were damaged.
The woman had been reported missing by her mother. Several searches for the 21-year-old were unsuccessful. Last Tuesday, police forces again searched for the body in Lake Constance.
Twelve further hearings have been scheduled for the trial. A verdict could be reached at the end of January.
The prosecution's case against the man includes stalking processes, as they allege he used a GPS transmitter in his ex-girlfriend's car and frequently called her location. Furthermore, the court accuses him of secretly taking pictures and videos of Constance, his ex-girlfriend.
