International - European Minister Pentz on multi-day trip in Turkey

Visit of the partner region, political talks in the million-city Istanbul and meetings with business representatives: Hessian European Minister Manfred Pentz (CDU) is traveling to Turkey for several days. Accompanied by state parliamentarians and representatives of the Hessenagentur, the CDU politician's goal, according to the Wiesbaden State Chancellery, is to expand economic relations.

Meetings with Presidential Advisors

"Turkey is, was, and will remain an enormously important partner for Germany and Hessen," Pentz reportedly told the State Chancellery at the start of the four-day delegation tour on Tuesday. The partnership between Hessen and the Bursa region, which lies to the south of Istanbul, is an important building block of German-Turkish friendship. "We want to cultivate, maintain, and expand this friendship," Pentz said.

During the trip, according to the State Chancellery, Minister Pentz will meet, among others, the Governor of the Bursa region, Mahmut Demirtas, and the Chief Advisor for Foreign and Security Policy of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Akif Cagatay Kilic.

Pentz: Relationship not tension-free

Pentz stated that the German-Turkish relationship is not tension-free. There are common interests, for example, in the area of migration, but also different opinions "on certain political issues, which I will address. Our friendship can also withstand difficult topics," emphasized the CDU politician.
