Entry is free for children at the state zoo - politicians present as well

With free admission for all children, the traditional State Zoo Day in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was celebrated. A total of 16 animal parks and zoos participated, as the State Chancellery announced.

Minister President Manuela Schwesig (SPD) emphasized during the opening ceremony at the Rostocker Zoo that these institutions were more than just recreational attractions. "They are places to learn and understand, partners in nature and species protection. Through them, we get to know animals from all over the world, including those that are endangered." With their work, zoos and animal parks made a significant contribution to conservation.

State Government at the Zoo

The state government was reportedly well represented at the Zoo Day. Minister President Schwesig was accompanied by Environment Minister Till Backhaus (SPD) during her visit to Rostock. Bildungsministerin Simone Oldenburg (Left) visited the Tierpark in Wismar, Justizministerin Jaqueline Bernhardt (Left) the Schweriner Zoo, and Sozialministerin Stefanie Drese (SPD) the Wildpark MV in Güstrow.

State Chancellor Patrick Dahlemann (SPD) and Interior State Secretary Wolfgang Schmülling (SPD) were at the Tierpark Ueckermünde, Vorpommern-State Secretary Heiko Miraß (SPD) in Wolgast, and Economic State Secretary Jochen Schulte (SPD) at the Vogelpark Marlow.

Million-dollar funding for zoos

Dahlemann handed over a grant of around 88,000 Euros to the Tierparkverein in Ueckermünde together with the managing director of the German Volunteer Foundation. With this money, a forest with native shrubs and deciduous trees is to be planted in the animal park, it was reported.

Schulte announced that since 2010, a large number of zoos and animal parks in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern had received a total of 83.8 million Euros in support. With this funding, among other things, a new Flamingo house was built in the Schwerin Zoo, a seal enclosure in the Rostocker Zoo, and a Penguin pool in the Vogelpark Marlow.

  5. With the financial support from the state, zoos in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have successfully built new facilities, such as a Flamingo house in Schwerin Zoo and a seal enclosure in Rostocker Zoo.
  6. As part of the State Zoo Day, Jochen Schulte, the Economic State Secretary and an SPD member, announced over 83.8 million Euros in funding for zoos and animal parks in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, aiming to promote conservation efforts and provide educational opportunities for children.
