Criminality - During EM, border controls: 153 execution orders

At border controls along the Brandenburg-Poland border during the Football European Championship, 153 open arrest warrants were executed and 24 smugglers were temporarily arrested. In addition, the German Federal Police detected 1,403 unlawful entries and sent back 977 persons. The Federal Police reported these figures in a preliminary balance of controls in the period from June 7 to July 19. A total of 183,332 persons were checked at the land border.

The Federal Interior Ministry had reintroduced border controls at all land-, air- and sea-side borders prior to the European Championship. In theory, such stationary controls between Germany and the other countries of the Schengen Agreement are not provided for - there is free movement. However, such controls at the German-Polish border had already been started months before the European Championship, independently of it, to curb irregular migration. They are to continue for the time being.
