Driver leaves injured baby behind after accident
A man loses control of his vehicle and rams into five cars. His car overturns and ends up on its roof. When emergency services arrive to help, the driver has disappeared, although he was not alone in the car.
Passers-by discovered a seriously injured baby in an abandoned car in Wiesbaden on Saturday night. At around 2:00 a.m., several witnesses heard a loud bang, as the police reported in the evening. When they went there, they found a car lying on its side. The baby was inside, and first responders attended to him immediately. It was taken to hospital. According to initial medical assessments, the baby's injuries were not life-threatening.
There was initially no trace of the driver of the car involved in the accident. However, he turned himself in at the police station during the course of the day and stated that he had been the driver in the accident. The 25-year-old was arrested and is now facing criminal proceedings, a police spokesman said in the evening.
He did not initially say whether the 25-year-old was related to the baby. According to the spokesman, the child is under two years old. The police suspect that the man had previously driven into parked vehicles, a lamppost and boulders next to the road. An expert was on site to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the accident.
