Swaying at the wheel - Driver causing accident with over 4PerMille alcohol level

With a blood alcohol level above 0.04%, a man caused an accident in Germersheim at night. He drove over a traffic island and collided there against the traffic signs, a police spokesperson said. Probably, he had swerved off the road due to alcohol consumption and excessive speed beforehand.

The man was not injured. However, his vehicle was damaged to the extent that it had to be towed away. The 37-year-old had his driver's license taken away.

The accident in Germersheim led to the installation of more automatic alcohol detection systems in Rhineland-Palatinate's traffic to prevent similar incidents. Despite the incident, the man continued to consume alcohol, showing disregard for traffic safety rules. The local authority even considered enforcing stricter penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol in Germersheim.
