Herb and Spice Plant - Dill harvest is running - demand is rising
The Bombastus-Works AG in Freital near Dresden is experiencing growing demand for Chamomile tea. Approximately 213,500 packages of tea from their own cultivation were sold to end consumers last year, which is almost a quarter more than the previous year, the company reports. About half of this was sold as loose tea, and 92,000 packages contained Chamomile tea in filter bags.
The cultivation and processing of Chamomile is the core business of the herbal remedy manufacturer. Bombastus claims to be one of the largest Chamomile cultivators in Europe with a multi-year cultivation. Since 1914, the company has grown Chamomile on its own fields.
The product range includes not only Chamomile tea
According to Bombastus, Chamomile and intercrops are grown on a 40 hectare area. This year, Chamomile is grown on ten hectares. The focus is on tea production. In addition, the product range is diverse and includes, among other things, medicines, pharmaceutical raw materials, cosmetic products, essential oils, and aroma essences.
The further processing of Chamomile leaves takes place in a 600 square meter hall next to the fields. Here, the Chamomile leaves are moved by conveyor belts over several levels for two days under the influence of tempered air. Subsequently, a night drying takes place. The leaves are then separated from the stems in the rebelling process. Before filling, each charge is tested in the lab.
