Desperate search for missing two-year-old continues

Concern is growing: on Sunday, a two-year-old girl, dressed only in pyjamas, disappears from her parents' house in Bingen. Sniffer dogs pick up the girl's trail - it leads to the River Lauchert. Now the water police in particular are called in.

The search for a missing toddler in Bingen near the Swabian Alb is to continue this Tuesday. A police spokeswoman announced that the water police would be on site. So far, all searches for the two-year-old have been unsuccessful.

Police sniffer dogs picked up the girl's trail on Monday, which led to the River Lauchert. The family's home is located in Hitzkofen - a suburb of Bingen in the district of Sigmaringen in Baden-Württemberg - in the immediate vicinity of the river. It is currently flooding.

According to the police, the Sigmaringen Criminal Investigation Department also investigated the personal and local environment of the family concerned in order to obtain possible new leads. "There have been no further findings so far," the officials announced in the evening. "There is no evidence of violence", said police spokesman Christian Sugg. The girl's parents were staying with acquaintances outside the community.

Divers also deployed

Divers had already searched for the girl along the river on Sunday - without success. The divers were also in the water at a weir. This is located between Bingen and Sigmaringendorf, where the Lauchert flows into the Danube. "We have found no trace of the missing girl there," said a police spokeswoman.

The two-year-old had probably left her parents' house in her pyjamas in an unobserved moment on Sunday afternoon. Officials believe it was an accident. However, as in similar cases, investigations are also being conducted in other directions. "We are not only looking for the child, but we are also looking for clues as to where the child might be," said a police spokeswoman. The officers were also supported in their search on Monday by a police helicopter. In addition, family, acquaintances and friends were being questioned.
