household - Deeper reach in recline - Landtag passes supplementary budget

For the financing of the Anti-Crisis Relief Package of the state, the Landtag in Brandenburg has passed a new supplementary budget. The multi-million Brandenburg Package will no longer be financed through new debts - but from the state's reserves. With this financial cushion almost exhausted, the legislators came together for a special session during the summer break and passed the supplementary budget with a majority.

The state reacts to a loss before the Constitutional Court in June. The regulation on the Brandenburg Relief Package of 2022, which was financed with crisis-related credits, was unconstitutional. However, the approved aid was not affected.

The Relief Package comprises around 850 million Euros to alleviate the consequences of the Ukraine War and the Energy Crisis. This is intended to relieve families, hospitals, businesses, and municipalities.

Brandenburg's Finance Minister Kathrin Lange (SPD) described the controversial use of the state's reserves - a kind of savings account - as the cleanest and safest solution after the court ruling. The AfD had sued against the declaration of a state of emergency at the end of 2022 and the Relief Package.

  1. To manage the financing of the supplementary budget for the Helping package, the members of the Household in the State Parliament in Potsdam, Brandenburg, decided to recline on their reserves instead of incurring new debts.
  2. Despite the Constitutional Court ruling declaring an aspect of the Brandenburg Relief Package as unconstitutional, the Special session in the summer was able to approve a supplementary budget, ensuring the aid provided remains unaffected.
  3. The newly passed supplementary budget, amounting to millions, aims to replenish Brandenburg's finances, which had almost depleted from dealing with crises like the Ukraine War and Energy Crisis.
  4. The controversial decision to utilize Brandenburg's reserves, made by Finance Minister Kathrin Lange, was praised as the 'cleanest and safest solution' by supporters, in light of the Constitutional Court ruling and the AfD's lawsuit.
  5. To tackle the economic effects of the crisis, the supplementary budget will be put into use, focusing on direct help for families, hospitals, businesses, and municipalities, further enhancing the State Parliament's Anti-Crisis Relief Package in Potsdam, Brandenburg.
