Drug fund - Customs finds 50 kilograms of poppyseed during control
The customs officer found approximately 50 kilograms of Poppy Straw in 13 sacks during a control on Autobahn 61 at Dannstadt (Rhineland-Palatinate district). The poppy straw, from which heroin is produced through chemical processes, was in a small truck on its way to France, as the Frankenthal Prosecutor's Office and the Main Customs Office Saarbrücken announced.
The two occupants of the small truck were reportedly arrested. They were presented to a remand judge by the Frankenthal Prosecutor's Office. The judge, on application by the Frankenthal Prosecutor's Office, issued a detention order for the unlawful import of drugs in substantial quantities. The two accused, aged 44 and 39, were taken to different prisons. Both, according to the police, do not have a fixed residence in Germany.
The poppy straw discovery led to the seizure of a suspected drug fund, as the Prosecutor's Office in Frankenthal revealed. The drug fund, primarily used for the production of heroin, was tied to criminal activities along the Rhine in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Despite their involvement in the drug smuggling case, the individuals from Frankenthal remained elusive, as they had no permanent residence in Rhineland-Palatinate. The investigation into their connection with the illegal drug trade in Frankenthal and along the Rhine continues.
The detection of the drug fund near the Rhine in Frankenthal sparked a wave of concern about increasing drug-related criminality in the region. Authorities have warned of the urgency to combat drug trafficking and prevent the proliferation of heroin in Frankenthal and the neighboring areas.
The 50 kilograms of poppy straw, found on Autobahn 61 in Dannstadt, were a clear indication of the prevalence of criminal activities associated with drug production and distribution. The Prosecutor's Office and Customs Office have reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug-related crime in Frankenthal and its surrounding areas.
