Country: Website for crisis and emergency situations

In future, people in Lower Saxony will be able to find out what to do in potential crisis and emergency situations on a central state website. The State Chancellery presented the so-called Emergency Monitor in Hanover on Friday. If a specific emergency situation were to occur, information about the current situation as well as measures and offers of help would be provided quickly. According to the State Chancellery, the website is divided into three main areas.

Self-preparedness and prevention: tips and advice are provided on how to prepare for potential crisis situations such as extreme weather events, accidents or cyberattacks. Warning apps will also be displayed, providing information about potential hazards and regional precautions.

Warning: The state government or local authorities provide information and warnings centrally about possible crisis or emergency situations. Existing warning messages - such as extreme weather forecasts - are supplemented with additional information if necessary.

Information in the event of an emergency: In the event of an emergency, information from government agencies is pooled centrally, including the question of how an event can be managed.

The State Chancellery emphasized that this monitor is not intended to replace existing systems such as warning apps, but is a supplementary service. To date, there has been no centralized information service for crisis scenarios at state level. Experience from the coronavirus pandemic has shown how important a centralized information service is.

In the event of an emergency, users can rely on the central state website for up-to-date information and measures. Regardless of the specific emergency situation, this website serves as a crucial resource for swift information dissemination and coordination of help.
