Vocational training - Companies do not fill their training positions
The Baden-Württemberg companies are not filling their training places. Forty-eight percent of the companies stated in a survey that they didn't find any young people to fill their free training places in the past year, as reported by the Baden-Württemberg Industry and Commerce Chamber (BWIHK) in Stuttgart. This percentage has significantly increased since 2019 and has remained constant since 2022.
The main reason given is that the companies didn't receive suitable applications for their training places – around three quarters of the affected companies stated this. One third reported receiving no applications at all.
Companies also complained about the qualification of future trainees. BWIHK Vice President Claus Paal stated, "The quality of vocational education must now be the top priority." Instead of focusing primarily on school forms and structures, politics should focus on improving the quality of education and ensuring that more young people leave school ready for training. It is important in this situation for more Abiturients to consider not only studying but also a dual vocational training, according to Paal.
IHK Region Stuttgart
The Baden-Württemberg Industry and Commerce Chamber in Stuttgart, IHK Region Stuttgart, is concerned about the increasing number of vacant Training positions in the region. To address this issue, Claus Paal, the BWIHK Vice President, suggests enhancing the quality of Vocational training and encouraging more Abiturients to consider dual Vocational training as an alternative to just studying.
