People - Comedian Wigald Boning: "I swam myself to health"
When comedian Wigald Boning goes swimming in a river, lake, pond or pond every day, he says he also has money with him to pay a fine. "Normally I stick to swimming bans - if they make sense to me. But I always have 50 euros with me and hope that the fine doesn't exceed that amount," said Boning in an interview with the "Freie Presse" (Saturday). In recent months, Boning has been swimming in the Thames or in the Ammersee, where Boning lives with his family.
Boning has particularly fond memories of the cold water in Erfurt, for example. "The Gera flows under the fantastic Krämerbrücke, Europe's longest bridge with houses on it." However, the river there is only 20 centimetres deep, making swimming impossible. "Nevertheless, it was an incredible pleasure to roll around in the river like a seal."
Boning came up with the idea of swimming after moving to Herrsching am Ammersee in Bavaria with his family. He was also bothered by his calcified shoulder: "I had already undergone various therapies without success and now thought: give swimming a try." With success. "According to my doctor, I swam myself back to health. Especially by spending time in cold water. But all sorts of other ailments have also disappeared." However, his immune system still can't keep colds at bay.
