Air traffic - Climate activists protest at Stuttgart Airport
Multiple activists protested at the start of summer holidays at Stuttgart's Airport with banners calling for more climate protection. They were reportedly in Terminal 1 and 3 at elevated positions, according to an airport spokesperson. The activists climbed on ticket counters, according to their own statements. However, the airport spokesperson mentioned that the flight operations were running normally and smoothly. The Federal Police were initially unreachable for comment.
The group "Last Generation" claimed responsibility for the disruption. They wanted to send a message against the growing air traffic, the climate strategy of the airport, and the lack of a swift exit plan from fossil fuel energy sources from the German government. The banners read, according to a statement, "Change - It's burning! Reduce flights." Previously, activists had peacefully protested in the terminals at Stuttgart Airport.
Climate activists had disrupted flights at Cologne/Bonn Airport for approximately three hours on a Wednesday.
- The Demonstration by the group "Last Generation" in Baden-Württemberg's Stuttgart aimed to highlight their concerns about the increasing air traffic at the Airport, coinciding with the summer vacation.
- Despite the Demonstration disrupting certain areas of Stuttgart's Airport, particularly ticket counters in Terminal 1 and 3, the climate activists did not significantly impact the regular Air traffic operations.
- The Demonstration at Stuttgart's Airport escalated concerns about the environmental impact of Air traffic, as climate activists in neighboring Baden-Württemberg, specifically at Cologne/Bonn Airport, had previously disrupted flights for several hours.
