Strike Waves - City-Bahn trains of Chemnitz roll again after strike ending
After the premature end of a strike at the Chemnitz City-Bahn, the regular schedule is in effect once again. However, not all trains are running yet. Due to the very short lead time, the City-Bahn announced that they couldn't "get all trains rolling according to the schedule at Monday morning with the start of operations." Therefore, bus service continues, as the City-Bahn stated in response to inquiries. With further strikes not being ruled out, the City-Bahn plans to have the buses run the next few days.
Strike suddenly stopped
The GDL informed the management of the transportation company late on Sunday evening about a strike stoppage for the night from Sunday to Monday. Accordingly, the strike ended at 2:00 AM on Monday. The GDL has not yet announced any plans for the next strike. "We have ended this strike and then we'll see what happens," a GDL spokesperson stated in response to inquiries.
Lengthy wage negotiations
The GDL has gone on strike against the City-Bahn 17 times in a row. The wage negotiations had failed in Leipzig over a week ago. The offer from the City-Bahn, which included a reduction of working hours to 35 hours per week without a wage reduction, was evaluated by the GDL as a provocation at the time.
Wage increases rejected
City-Bahn managing director Friedbert Straube regretted that a reasonable compromise could not be reached. The GDL remained inflexible. "They want to raise wages disproportionately despite the reduction in working hours. This is a significant risk for the transport offer and jobs," Straube stated.
The City-Bahn operates in the Chemnitz area and on several railway lines in Central and Western Saxony. Approximately 185 people work for the municipal company.
