Cher: "I was the prime example of a wild child"

The American pop singer Cher liked to go over the top as a child. "I was the perfect example of a wild child," said the 77-year-old in an interview with the Augsburger Allgemeine.

She told the newspaper an episode from the past: "I was nine years old when I didn't go home from school but ran away. I threw away my lunch box, talked my friend into going on an adventure trip and hopped on a freight train with her. We had no idea where we were going, and later it turned out that my mom was mostly mad about the lunchbox, well, and we drove and drove until my friend started crying because it was getting dark. I finally called my mother, who was of course pretty upset and came to pick us up."

Her mother, however, reacted quite relaxed. "The crazier the things I did, the calmer my mother became. I think I also impressed her a little with my toughness and tenacity."

Cher released her latest album in October. She is due to perform a song on Thomas Gottschalk's last episode of "Wetten, dass...?" on Saturday.

People gathered at the concert venue to enjoy Cher's music performance. Despite her wild past, her music has resonated with people across generations.
