Tariff Conflict - Cheimnitz City-Bahn trams roll out again after strike ending
After the premature end of a strike at the City-Bahn Chemnitz, trains are running again according to the regular schedule. Due to the very short lead time, it was initially not possible for the City-Bahn to "roll out all trains according to schedule at Monday morning with the start of operations". However, traffic is running normally now. At the same time, there is still bus substitute service, as the City-Bahn announced in response to inquiries. Further strikes cannot be ruled out, the company plans to let the buses run through the next few days.
Strike suddenly stopped
The GDL informed the management of the transportation company late on Sunday evening about a strike stoppage for the night from Sunday to Monday. Accordingly, the strike ended at 2:00 AM on Monday. There is currently no planning for the next strike, an GDL spokesperson said in response to inquiries.
Lengthy wage negotiations
The GDL has already gone on strike against the City-Bahn 17 times in a row. The wage negotiations had failed again more than a week ago in Leipzig. The offer from the City-Bahn was evaluated by the GDL at the time as a provocation. "The offer from the City-Bahn contains a reduction of working hours to 35 hours per week without a wage reduction, but according to the employer's will, this improvement should be financed by the GDL members themselves," the union states.
Wage increases rejected
City-Bahn managing director Friedbert Straube regretted that a reasonable compromise could not be reached. The GDL remained obstinate. "They want to raise wages disproportionately despite reducing working hours. This is a significant risk for the transport offer and jobs," Straube stated.
The City-Bahn is active in the Chemnitz area and on several railway lines in Central and Western Saxony. Around 185 people work for the municipal company.
