CDU focuses on security, education, and craftsmanship in its campaign

Above all, the CDU focuses on the topic of security among voters in Saxony - and promises to take a "own Saxon way" in limiting irregular migration, if necessary.

State election - CDU focuses on security, education, and craftsmanship in its campaign

The CDU places a strong focus on security policy during its campaign for the state elections. "Our promise is: With the Saxon Union, law and order will be enforced," said Alexander Dierks, General Secretary of the CDU in Saxony, at the presentation of the campaign.

This includes limiting irregular migration, which the CDU intends to achieve primarily through border controls. "We have extended our hand to the federal government on this issue, but they have not moved," said Dierks. "We are ready to go our own way in Saxony."

This approach, according to the Christians Democrats, should be based on a border police modeled after Bavaria. In addition, the number of civilian police officers is to be doubled to ensure more security and accessibility, especially in rural areas.

Early Childhood Education

The focus on education is on the little ones. "In kindergarten, the foundations for further life, and not least for further educational biographies, are laid," explained Dierks. Therefore, the CDU wants to make the last kindergarten year a compulsory preschool year. To counteract the teacher shortage in schools, there will be additional study places and offers, as well as assistance systems.

The CDU intends to strengthen craftsmanship with a further doubling of the master bonus from 2,000 to 4,000 euros. This is a central concern in the government program, emphasized Dierks.

The CDU has been in Saxony since 1990 without interruption, with Kretschmer in charge since 2017, who wants to defend his office again. In the latest Infratest survey, the party was at 29 percent, just below the AfD (30 percent). For the two current coalition partners SPD and Greens (both 7 percent), it could be tight with regard to re-entry into the state parliament.

  1. The CDU's campaign for the state election in Dresden highlights their commitment to border control, aiming to limit irregular migration primarily through enhanced border checks.
  2. Alongside their focus on security, the CDU also places emphasis on education, particularly Early Childhood Education, with a goal to make the last kindergarten year compulsory to lay strong foundations.
  3. In an effort to address the teacher shortage in schools, the CDU proposes additional study places and offers, as well as assistance systems, to encourage more individuals to pursue teaching careers.
  4. The party, which has been in power in Saxony since 1990, led by Michael Kretschmer since 2017, intends to maintain its position in the upcoming state election, currently projected to receive 29% of the vote.
  5. The CDU also emphasizes the importance of craftsmanship in their government program, proposing to double the master bonus from 2,000 to 4,000 euros to support and inspire more individuals to pursue skilled trades.
