clinic crisis - CDU-Faction: Committee-Special session on the Jena University Hospital

The CDU faction is calling for a joint special session of the Thuringia parliamentary committees on Health and Economics in response to the financial crisis at the Jena University Hospital. The announcement by the state government that it intends to involve the Landtag only at the end of August is criticized as too late by the parliamentary leader of the CDU faction, Andreas Bühler. "These obvious problems should not be allowed to continue." The session should therefore take place as soon as possible and help find a quick solution.

A veritable clinic crisis in Thuringia

At the University Hospital, the situation is dire, as other Thuringian hospitals have been grappling with for years. "We have a veritable clinic crisis," Bühler said. In the special session, the state government, according to the CDU faction's will, should among other things explain when they became aware of the hospital's economic problems and what effects they will have on the state budget. "Red-Red-Green has wasted an entire election period in health policy and is on the same sleeper train as Federal Health Minister Lauterbach on the topic of hospital reform."

Discussions about credit borrowing and state subsidies

The Ministry of Science has announced further talks with the Finance Ministry by at least early August. Discussed is, among other things, the possibility of the clinic taking out a loan in conjunction with a state subsidy. The ministry also intends to inform the relevant scientific committee in its next meeting on August 21st in detail about the current status.

The University Hospital in Jena, with 1,400 beds for patient care, includes 32 clinics and polyclinics and more than two dozen research institutes and scientific working groups with approximately 7,000 employees.

  1. The CDU faction in the Thuringia State parliament believes a special session involving both Health and Economics committees is necessary to address the financial crisis at the Jena University Hospital.
  2. Andreas Bühler, the parliamentary leader of the CDU faction, criticizes the state government's plan to involve the Landtag only in August, stating that the clinical crisis should not be allowed to continue.
  3. According to the CDU faction, the special session should focus on when the state government became aware of the hospital's financial difficulties and its potential impact on the state budget.
  4. The University Clinic in Jena, a significant institution with 1,400 patient beds, 32 clinics, and 7,000 employees, is facing a critical situation due to financial hardship.
  5. Discussions between the Ministry of Science and the Finance Ministry are scheduled to occur by early August, exploring possibilities of the clinic taking out a loan with state subsidies to alleviate the crisis.
  6. The Landtag committee will be updated on the current status of the hospital crisis during its meeting on August 21st, as the Ministry of Science intends to provide detailed information.
