vacation and school duty - Caught: Sending children to vacation too early from school

The police at Memmingen airport caught families with school-aged children trying to leave early for summer vacation. The border police reportedly identified two mothers with children between the ages of 9 and 12 during exit control. They could not produce proof of school absence. The Bavarian Interior Ministry, in response to a query, stated that the Bavarian Police do not specifically target truants but do encounter school-attending children and adolescents during police work.

The ministry could not provide statistics. The two mothers are expected to pay fines of up to 1,000 Euro. The schools were also informed.

The incident at Memmingen airport sparked discussions about school duties in Swabia, with some questioning the role of the police in enforcing attendance. Despite not targeting truants specifically, Bavarian Police often encounter school-going children during their duties. The event took place in the picturesque town of Memmingen, located in the Bavarian region of Germany.
