Labor market - Career counseling is being planned more at schools
Employees of the Hamburg Youth Vocational Agency should visit schools more frequently to advise students on career choices, announced Hamburg's Senator for Social Affairs Melanie Schlotzhauer (SPD).
The background is the announcement of several Hamburg authorities that they want to further develop the Agency. With this, its work is supposed to be improved. Among other things, it is planned that there will be immediate consultations for young people in the future; also a so-called joint competence center is supposed to emerge. It is not clear when the changes will take effect and what they will cost.
The Hamburg Youth Vocational Agency has existed since 2012. The institution aims to bring young people into an apprenticeship or mediate a profession. According to the information given, the Agency has contributed to the fact that in Hamburg an increasing number of young people begin an apprenticeship directly after graduating from school.
- The proposed joint competence center at the Hamburg Youth Vocational Agency might also offer career counseling services to refugee youth, helping them make informed decisions about their occupational choices within the Hamburg labor market.
- To fully utilize the potential of the Hamburg Youth Vocational Agency's developments, it would be beneficial to collaborate with organizations that support migrants, facilitating career counseling for them in their new home, Hamburg.
- With the enhanced services offered by the Hamburg Youth Vocational Agency, younger generations, including recent migrants, will have better access to the Hamburg labor market and can make informed decisions about their occupational choices through career counseling.
