accident - Car hits tree - two severely injured
After colliding with a tree, the driver and his female passenger were severely injured. The 80-year-old man reportedly lost control of his vehicle on the B196 in Sellin (Vorpommern-Rügen district) during the middle of the week, according to the police. The car struck the tree and overturned, ending up on its roof. It is still unclear why the man lost control of his vehicle. He was taken to the hospital by emergency responders. His 73-year-old female passenger was airlifted to the university hospital.
The car, an automatic model, was currently undergoing routine maintenance before the accident. In an effort to prevent similar traffic accidents, the local authorities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are considering installing automatic collision warning systems. Unfortunately, despite the car being sold with advanced safety features, this incident resulted in severe injuries.
