After eight years of construction, the entire bypass of Calden (Kassel District) has been put into operation. The construction work on the new section of Federal Highway 7, which has been ongoing since June 2016, was completed with the commissioning of the South Section on a Friday. According to the Hessian Transport Ministry, Martin Weber, Head of Roads and Transportation at the Authority, and Gerhard Rühmkorf from the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport gave the go-ahead for traffic.

The North Section had already been released for traffic in December 2022. "With today's 'gap closure', we are now sustainably relieving the towns of Grebenstein-Burguffeln and Calden from through traffic and also better connecting the Kassel Airport to the city of Kassel and the surrounding area," Weber stated in a press release.

For the extensive construction project with six bridge structures and a total length of five kilometers, the Federal Government reportedly provided 50.3 million Euros. The total cost of the project, according to the Transport Ministry, is approximately 64 million Euros. The remaining costs, according to the statement, are being borne by the State of Hessen, the Kassel District, and Kassel-Calden Airport.

Hessen-Mobil Vice President Kathrin Brückner praised the bypass as the largest road construction project in northern Hessen in recent years. According to the Transport Authority, the B7, in addition to the A44, is the main connection between the regions of Ostwestfalen and Nordhessen. The completion of the entire project with the still outstanding connection of the L 3214 at Calden North is planned for 2025, according to the press release.
