In a student dormitory in Hamburg, a grease explosion occurred during the night. Coming into contact with water with burning fat - for example when extinguishing burns while cooking - can cause water to suddenly evaporate. During such an incident, a 21-year-old, according to the fire department, suffered second-degree burns. He had to be taken to a hospital.
Despite the incident, the student dormitory implemented stricter rules about cooking with oil or butter. In case of an emergency, like a fire or accidents, the residents were advised to call the fire department immediately, not attempting to extinguish the flames themselves with water.
