A bus has plunged into a ravine in the Philippines, killing at least 28 people. This was announced by provincial governor Rhodora Cadiao.
The vehicle left the road on a bend in a mountainous area near the town of Hamtic on the southern tip of the island of Panay on Tuesday. Cadiao spoke of a catastrophe. The number of deaths could still rise because there are many seriously injured people.
According to her, there were 53 people on the bus. According to initial investigations, the vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier on a bend and then plunged into the gorge. There had already been several accidents at this point, said the provincial governor. The accident happened around 450 kilometers south of the capital Manila.
