traffic - Burning crane - closed for 42 hours

After a fire in a construction crane, Autobahn 42 between the interchanges Gelsenkirchen-Heßler and Essen-Altenessen in the direction of Duisburg remains closed for several hours. The crane's motor caught fire, as Essen Fire Department reported in the afternoon. The crane driver was able to leave it in time. No one was injured.

Since the fire was fought by firefighters from Essen and Gelsenkirchen with a lot of foam and a large amount of hydraulic oil leaked out, the slippery road needs to be cleaned by a special company. In addition, the completely burnt-out vehicle needs to be towed away before the road can be reopened.

The fire incident happened near the interchanges of Gelsenkirchen-Heßler and Essen-Altenessen, both located in North Rhine-Westphalia, along Autobahn 42, which connects Duisburg to other parts of the region. Due to the clean-up process and vehicle removal following the fire, traffic in the area around Gelsenkirchen was significantly affected.
