Federal Army Payroll - Bundeswehr will continue to invest in Erfurt

Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) emphasized the importance of logistics for the armed forces at the beginning of a summer trip and announced additional investments in the Bundeswehr base in Erfurt. "No troop without logistics, no fight without supplies," said Pistorius during a visit to the Logistics Command in the Thuringian state capital. The command coordinates the entire supply for the Federal Armed Forces.

The establishment of the command in 2013 was successful, according to Pistorius. In the coming years, more money should therefore be invested in the Erfurt base. The funds should flow, among other things, into better training opportunities for soldiers.

Under the roof of the command, about 17,000 soldiers and civilian employees serve nationwide. The majority of them belong to the mobile logistics troop. In Erfurt, about 600 men and women of the command are stationed.

Pistorius dissatisfied with coalition government's budget negotiations

At the same time, Pistorius expressed dissatisfaction with the details of the coalition government's budget negotiations in Berlin. While it was an "expression of significantly more stability than one would credit this country with," that the Federal Cabinet had now agreed on a budget plan, the amount allocated for defense spending in 2025 did not meet the necessary amount to sufficiently finance the Bundeswehr. In parliamentary deliberations, he intended to advocate for more money for the Bundeswehr than what the cabinet had proposed, "because the task is greater than what is currently on the table."

In the budget proposal of the Federal Cabinet for the next year, 53.3 billion Euros in defense spending are budgeted. Pistorius had demanded 58 billion Euros.
