Elections 2025 - Bundestag Vice-President Yvonne Magwas announces resignation

The Saxon CDU Bundestag deputy Yvonne Magwas is stepping down from politics. She currently serves as the deputy president of the parliament. In a personal statement, the 44-year-old announced that she will not run for the Bundestag again in 2025. This decision, which she did not find easy, was made in consultation with her family.

Magwas also referred to the current situation, particularly in her home federal state. "The truth is that the social climate in the last few years has become significantly rougher, especially in Saxony (...) It's lied about, discredited, and incited; democracy and its institutions are systematically challenged with the goal of abolishing them."

"Experiencing a lot of indifference"

As a deputy, one is particularly exposed to the heat. "I have experienced a lot of insults, threats, but unfortunately also a lot of indifference. That drains energy," Magwas said. "If our country continues on this path, it will be dark and cold - people should think about that more often, in all small and big grievances. It takes heart, responsibility, and common sense. From Many."

Magwas wrote that much good has been achieved in Vogtland. "I wish that we would see the achievements more often, that we would first speak positively about our homeland and our country - because whoever is not optimistic cannot convince anyone, cannot inspire for our region." The CDU called on her for a clear stance: "Clear demarcation towards the far right must always and on all levels stand."

Magwas has been a Bundestag deputy since 2013.

Magwas's decision not to run for the Bundestag again in 2025 was influenced by the rough social climate in her home federal state of Saxony, where democracy and its institutions have been systematically challenged. Despite facing insults, threats, and indifference as a deputy, Magwas has been an advocate for positivity, wishing for more recognition of achievements in Vogtland and clear demarcation against the far right. Magwas, a CDU Bundestag deputy since 2013, also served as the deputy president of the Federal Parliament in Berlin.
