British boy found in France after six years

In 2017, a 13-year-old boy goes on vacation to Spain with his mother and grandfather. None of them return. The grandmother reports him missing. He has now suddenly reappeared at a small police station in the south of France. Authorities are investigating.

A British boy who was reported missing six years ago has turned up at a police station in south-western France after allegedly joining a cult. According to the public prosecutor's office in Toulouse, the now 17-year-old has been clearly identified by his family through photographs. He will return to the UK shortly.

The boy had left the UK in September 2017 for a planned family vacation in Spain, according to the police in Manchester. "This is a complex and lengthy investigation and we need to make further inquiries and take appropriate safeguarding measures," a police spokeswoman said.

Straying with sect through southern Europe and Morocco

According to a report by France 3, the boy was traveling with his mother and grandfather, who, according to his grandmother, had joined a cult. Both had actually been banned from contact with the boy. It was the grandmother who reported her grandchild missing. In the meantime, the boy had been spotted several times in Morocco and Spain.

Most recently, the boy, his mother and his grandfather had been staying in a wandering spiritual community in southwest France. A few days ago, the teenager decided to leave the group and wandered around on foot for several days, according to France 3. A lorry driver then picked him up as a hitchhiker and dropped him off at the police station in Revel, where the 17-year-old reported to the gendarmes.
