State election - Brandenburg SPD-deputy: Left program "completely irrational"

Brandenburgs SPD deputy chief Katrin Lange sharply criticized the Left and BSW about two months before the State Elections. "The Left has been actively working to become a disconnected political sect in the last few years," the Finance Minister told the "Potsdam Newest News," the "Nordkurier," and the "Prignitz."

"The current program of the Left is completely absurd: borders closed, residency rights for all, high taxes, total climate panic, toxic identity politics," she said. "For the representation of East Germany, no one needs the Left anymore. That's why the party is dying."

Lange: BSW is mostly Linke 2.0

In about two months - on September 22 - a new State Parliament will be elected in Brandenburg. The SPD governed in Brandenburg from 2009 to 2019 in coalition with the Left. For the first time, the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) is participating in the State Elections.

"The BSW is, for the most part, a 'Linke 2.0'", said Lange. Nothing changes that, not even the former SPD politician Robert Crumbach as the party leader. The party consists "mainly of Left activists who say: Our former party has lost its mind! That's true, too."

SPD deputy leader approves BSW migration course

The SPD deputy leader approves the BSW's course in migration policy. The BSW "has the flamboyant soloist Sahra Wagenknecht," said Lange. "She campaigns – at least rhetorically – for a more reasonable migration policy according to the German model, which I also support." She is, however, "a political one-man show." "Otherwise, the BSW is a wonder cabinet," said Lange. "The BSW is making big strides – but the Markish SPD has been delivering that for decades."

In the latest opinion poll by Insa for the "Bild"-Newspaper, the AfD leads with 24 percent. The SPD comes in second place with 19 percent, followed by the CDU with 18 percent. The BSW reaches 17 percent for the first time in a survey in Brandenburg. The Left is at 5 percent - and must fear not making it into the State Parliament.
