Brands - Brand in Workshop - Fire department rescues two people
The Fire Department in Bergheim (Rhin-Erft-District) extinguished a fire in a burning workshop early on Sunday morning and rescued two people. According to the Fire Department, dense black smoke was pushing out of all building openings when they arrived. A woman who had been trying to rescue herself from a roof was rescued using a ladder. Her husband was on the balcony at the back.
The 80-year-old man refused to climb down the ladder, so he was initially cared for on the balcony. He was then able to be taken out through the staircase. The man and woman were reportedly slightly injured and taken to a hospital according to the Fire Department. Approximately 40 emergency responders were on site. The Fire Department made no statements regarding the extent of the damage or the cause of the fire.
The uncertainty in the Fire Department increased as the elderly man showed signs of misgivings about descending the ladder. Despite the quiver in his voice, the firefighters reassured him and helped him safely down the stairs. The incident took place in the Rhin-Erft-District, specifically in Bergheim, North Rhine-Westphalia, where the local workshop suffered a severe brand. The Fire Department's workshop was notably busy that day, with around 40 personnel attending to the incident.
