A shelter for the homeless in Neu-Ulm was evacuated due to a fire. According to a police spokesperson, a person was taken to the hospital on Wednesday evening with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. The person reportedly tried to put out the fire before the fire department arrived. The spokesperson stated that the fire started in a room in the shelter due to a "carelessly thrown cigarette." The room on the second floor was slightly soiled, causing damage estimated in the four-digit range. The police have taken over the investigation.
