Brand - Brand in apartment near fire station - 300,000 Euro damage

At a fire in a Multistory Building in Heidenheim, damage estimated at around 300,000 Euro has occurred. The investigators suspect, according to the first findings, that the cause of the fire was negligent behavior of a resident with an open fire, as the police reported. What exactly happened is part of the investigation, a spokesperson said.

The firefighters did not have far to go on Friday evening: The burning attic apartment is located only a few meters from the fire station - in the same street.

No Easy Rescue

Despite the proximity, the rescue operation proved to be challenging. The apartment, according to the Police, was located on the second floor. The floor was completely filled with smoke. When the police arrived, 12 of the 13 residents of the Multistory Building were already in front of the building. Another resident in the ground floor was reportedly alerted to the danger. The rescue teams reportedly accompanied the man out of the house.

Nine residents were reportedly accommodated elsewhere in the city, while others took care of themselves. The investigations continued.

The police in Heidenheim an der Brenz attributed the cause of the fire to the negligence of a resident, specifically their use of an open fire. The fire station in Heidenheim, located near the scene, was quickly called into action due to the blaze in a Multistory Building. Despite being close by, the fire department faced difficulties rescuing the resident on the second floor due to heavy smoke filling the apartment.
