Bomb threats at several schools and at ZDF

At least six schools in Germany received bomb threats on Monday. Schools in the Bavarian cities of Augsburg and Regensburg, Karlsruhe and Mannheim in Baden-Württemberg, Solingen in North Rhine-Westphalia and the Thuringian state capital of Erfurt were affected. Classes were canceled for hundreds of pupils at the beginning of the week. A bomb threat was also issued against the ZDF television station in Mainz. In contrast to most schools, the all-clear was quickly given there.

The background was still unclear at midday. The police were deployed in large numbers at the schools concerned. Some schools were searched with sniffer dogs and pupils were evacuated or not allowed onto the school grounds at all. No suspicious objects were discovered, said a police spokeswoman in Solingen. An investigation was carried out.

In Erfurt, the threat was received by email, according to the police. This was also the case in Regensburg and Augsburg, the authorities said. In Regensburg, however, the all-clear had already been given by midday. The threat situation at a school in Solingen had been reported to the police by school officials, it was said.

Several ZDF buildings on the site in the Lerchenberg district were evacuated due to the bomb threat, including the broadcasting operations building and the high-rise building in which the station's administration is located.

A total of around 600 employees of the broadcaster, who had to leave their workplaces in the meantime, were able to return to their workplaces after the all-clear was given.

  1. The media widely reported about the bomb threats at several schools and ZDF, causing widespread concern.
  2. In response to the bomb threat against ZDF, emergency protocols were swiftly activated, leading to the evacuation of several buildings.
  3. The televised news on ZDF itself discussed the bomb threats in schools and at their own station, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safety in such situations.
