World War Bomb - Bomb finding at Tesla-Works - Tensions at Waldcamp

One day before the detonation of a World War II Bomb at the Tesla Work, Tesla opponents had to temporarily evacuate their forest camp. The police threatened to evacuate them forcefully in the meantime. "We will begin to evacuate the camp around 12 pm, around 12.15 pm, if necessary", said a police statement to the activists. Shortly thereafter, the occupiers left the camp voluntarily. The officers then inspected the tree houses with specialized equipment to ensure that all activists had left.

Forest occupiers criticize police actions

The activists criticized the police actions as a "surprise raid". They were told at 9 am that they had to leave the camp by 10 am. After that, they were informed that they might be "physically removed" if they did not comply. No alternative accommodation was suggested to them. "We strongly criticize the short notice and the absence of alternative solutions", the forest occupiers said on their Telegram channel.

The assembly interrupted by bomb detonation

The assembly was interrupted by the bomb detonation on Wednesday and the preparations. According to the police, it should be able to continue after the detonation. "There is an oral assurance that the assembly can resume tomorrow", confirmed a spokesperson for the activists from "Tesla stoppen". However, the exact time was unclear. The police see the closure lasting until the end of the detonation on Wednesday.

Tesla production unaffected

The 250 kilogram World War II bomb was discovered approximately one week ago on the planned expansion site of the Tesla Factory. The bomb cannot be transported and must be detonated on site, said Nico Bauermeister, head of the order office of the community of Grünheide, to the German Press Agency. A bomb had already been controlled detonated on the site a few weeks ago.

"As of the current status, we do not assume that the production will be affected", said a Tesla spokeswoman. Only a small part of the factory grounds is affected by the exclusion zone. This mainly concerns a logistics area and a waste treatment plant, said the spokeswoman. "Production buildings are not affected by the exclusion zone." The previous detonation a few weeks ago had taken place on a weekend when production was already idle.

Roads and public transport affected

Affected by the exclusion zone in this case are also the state roads 23 and 38, which should be closed from Wednesday morning, said Bauermeister. The train station Fangschleuse is also closed from 7 am. Buses do not run over the station.

  1. The discovery of the World War II Bomb at the Tesla Factory in Brandenburg, Germany, has led to a temporary suspension of operations in a small part of the automobile industry giant's logistics area and waste treatment plant.
  2. The police, in preparation for the controlled detonation of the bomb, have warned of potential disruptions to traffic, including the closure of state roads 23 and 38 and the temporary closure of the train station Fangschleuse.
  3. The detonation of the World War Bomb, although a precautionary measure for public safety, has raised concerns among environmental activists, who criticize the short notice and absence of alternative solutions for their evacuation from the nearby forest camp.
  4. In the aftermath of the discovery of the bomb, some local residents and activists have expressed concerns about the potential environmental impact of the detonation and the safety measures in place to mitigate any potential damage.
  5. The bomb detonation at the Tesla Factory has brought back memories of World War II, reminding us of the importance of historical preservation and the need for careful handling of potential explosives in modern construction and development projects.
