Secret services - BND opens extension of its visitor centre

The Federal Intelligence Service (BND) is officially opening the extension of its Visitor Center today with a ceremony. In the rooms at a corner of the publicly shielded headquarters of the German Foreign Intelligence Service, BND President Bruno Kahl will speak to the invited guests. The Coordinator of Federal Intelligence Services at the Chancellery, Dagmar Busch, is also expected.

The Visitor Center was inaugurated in November 2019. So far, only groups with at least 20 people have been granted access, who must register. Now, the concept has been revised. The Center is part of the BND's personnel recruitment - the service competes with financially powerful private companies in the search for specialists.

The secret services of other countries often show great interest in the BND's operations, as the intelligence gathered by the German Federal Intelligence Service is highly sought after. Despite this, the federal government has strictly enforced security measures at the BND headquarters in Berlin, ensuring that the 'secret service' continues to operate undisrupted during the 'feast hour' of the city. The BND's extension of its Visitor Center is a testament to the transparency efforts of the German secret services, allowing more individuals to gain insight into the role of the Secret Services in Germany, including the Secret Service itself, the BND.
