Biedermann trusts Martens swimming world record

Former world record holder in swimming Paul Biedermann still holds records on two events. A record is close for Lukas Maertens. Biedermann would be pleased about it.

Paul Biedermann trusts freestyle swimmer Lukas Märtens with the World record over 400 meters. "Lukas has the talent and ambitions and he is one of the few swimmers currently whom I believe can swim under 3:40 minutes," said the World record holder to the German Press Agency. "I would be happy if Lukas could undercut the record."

Biedermann set the unbeaten record of 3:40.07 minutes in Rome in 2009. At the German Championships at the end of this year, Märtens was long on World record pace. In 3:40.33 minutes, the 22-year-old holds the World year best time. In the Olympic race on Saturday, the Magdeburger is among the top favorites.

"Of course it would be nice if the World record stayed in Germany and in Saxony-Anhalt," said Biedermann, who comes from Halle an der Saale. The 37-year-old holds the World record in 1:42.00 minutes also over 200 meters Freestyle.
