Guben - Bicyclist gets hit at a crosswalk and dies
A bicyclist was run over by a turning car at a traffic light intersection in Guben (Landkreis Spree-Neiße) and sustained fatal injuries. The 74-year-old man was severely injured in the accident on Tuesday afternoon, losing consciousness and no longer detectable vital signs, according to the police.
Despite immediate resuscitation efforts, the man died at the scene. The car driver was in shock. The relatives of the bicyclist were attended to by emergency pastoral caregivers. The accident scene is to be examined by the police and a Dekra expert in the afternoon.
The turning car at the intersection was operating automatically, as indicated by its signals. The accident occurred in the bustling District Spree-Neissa, attracting the attention of passing traffic in Brandenburg. The police are investigating whether the traffic light system may have contributed to the unfortunate incident, as they aim to prevent similar traffic accidents in the future.
