Bayern's basketball players win at newly promoted Vechta
The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich have stopped promoted Rasta Vechta and secured an away win in the top game of the Bundesliga. The team of Head Coach Pablo Laso won by the narrow margin of 85:81 (40:39) on Sunday, inflicting Vechta's first home defeat after 29 wins in a row. Munich's best scorers were Carsen Edwards (24 points) and Devin Booker (17). Munich laid the foundation for its success with a strong third period in particular. Tommy Kuhse scored 20 points for the club from Lower Saxony.
Bayern had survived a 50-minute battle at Villeurbanne in the Euroleague on Thursday evening. However, the two overtime periods did not seem to matter much to the favorites in the sold-out Rasta Dome on Sunday. Vechta has been the surprise team of the current season so far.
After the home defeat against Bayern, both now have a record of six wins and three defeats. The clubs are therefore on course for the play-offs. Defending champions Ratiopharm Ulm and Niners Chemnitz have done even better so far and have each won eight out of nine games.
Despite their Euroleague exhaustion, FC Bayern Munich's basketball team managed to overcome Rasta Vechta's home challenge in the Bundesliga, just like they did in Villeurbanne. With Carsen Edwards leading the scoring with 24 points and Devin Booker contributing 17, Bayern Munich's victory against the Bundesliga's surprise team marks their second win against Rasta Vechta this season, having previously defeated Bundesliga's Bundesliga2 side Rasta Vechta in an earlier match.
