Football-Bundesliga - Bayern-Coach Kompany: No comment on individual players

Bayern Munchen's new trainer Vincent Kompany will not comment on the possible future of individual players. "Names do not belong in my thinking", explained the coach at the beginning of Bayern Munchen's training camp at Tegernsee.

The Belgian was a week into training and had been asked about Joshua Kimmich's position and the future of Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry - both of whom could leave the club. Kompany answered a corresponding journalist question: "You've spoken about buying and selling. That's not my job."

Munchen have so far signed defender Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart, midfielder João Palhinha (FC Fulham), and winger Michael Olise (Crystal Palace) in this transfer period. They have paid out around 125 million Euros in transfer fees. The signings could influence the future structure of the team. Specifically on that topic, Kompany did not want to comment. "I will not get involved in that, no chance", he said.

No press conference about Hoeneß statements

Regarding the question of whether he sees Kimmich as a defensive midfielder or right back in the future, the 38-year-old did not say anything concrete. "I understand the question, I really do. But we could go through all the names: Harry Kane, Musiala, what do I think about Goretzka, Serge Gnabry... I could go on and on, but that's not my intention."

Bayern Munchen honorary president Uli Hoeneß had said over the weekend that the club would certainly still sell players this summer. "I'm not here to hold a press conference about what Uli Hoeneß said", said Kompany. "I have great respect for him. But my job is to focus on my work."

Currently, he has 23 field players and four goalkeepers at the three-day camp in Rottach-Egern. The EM players will join the team in the coming days and weeks, and the team departs for a promotional trip to South Korea on July 31.

On this trip, England striker Kane will be absent, who reached the EM final with his team. The situation is similar for Alphonso Davies from Canada and Kingsley Coman and Dayot Upamecano from France, who reached the halves of Copa America and EM respectively.

  1. Hiroki Ito, a defender from Stuttgart, is one of Bayern Munchen's recent signings during this transfer period.
  2. Despite the new additions, Vincent Kompany remains tight-lipped about the future structure of the team, citing his focus on his coaching duties.
  3. In response to questions about Joshua Kimmich's potential position change or Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry's futures at the club, Kompany merely reiterated that it's not his job to discuss buying and selling.
  4. Vincent Kompany, the new Bayern Munchen trainer, refused to comment on Uli Hoeness's statement about the club selling players this summer.
  5. The Belgian coach, during a press conference, expressed his respect for Uli Hoeness but clarified that his priority was to focus on his coaching duties.
  6. Bayern Munchen has spent around 125 million Euros on transfers, with the acquisitions of Ito, João Palhinha, and Michael Olise being notable additions.
  7. With EM players expected to join the team in the coming days and weeks, Kompany currently has a squad of 27 players at the training camp in Tegernsee.
  8. Despite the star-studded squad, key players such as England striker Harry Kane, Alphonso Davies, Kingsley Coman, and Dayot Upamecano will be absent on Bayern's promotional trip to South Korea.
  9. Vincent Kompany is yet to decide on Kimmich's future role, citing a long list of potential players, including famed English striker Harry Kane and Bayern's own Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry.
