In the vicinity of Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, but unrelated to the concert by the US-Pop-Star Taylor Swift, loud noises from a apartment triggered a larger police operation. On a Wednesday evening, the police were first called to the apartment due to a distress call from a 70-year-old man. Upon arrival, they heard loud noises, as reported by the police. It could not be excluded that these were gunshots, hence a wide perimeter was secured and special units were called in, a spokeswoman stated on Thursday.

The man was reportedly "in a psychological emergency situation", overpowered and taken to a hospital. The incident had no connection to the concert. However, fans leaving the show were affected by traffic disruptions due to the road closures.
