road renovation - Bahn is satisfied with Riedbahn-Replacement Traffic
For about a week now, work has been underway on the Riedbahn and the replacement transport between Frankfurt am Main and Mannheim. The German Railways (Deutsche Bahn) are satisfied with the progress. "The general renovation and construction work have started as planned. The replacement transport with 150 new buses has also been successfully launched and is running smoothly," said a spokeswoman of the Bahn to the German Press Agency. "We are very pleased with the first few days."
In the first week, passengers have accepted the replacement offer well. Up to 16,000 travelers were on the move in the replacement transport every day. "Many of them appreciate that the buses run every five to 15 minutes," said the spokeswoman. The modern equipment with WLAN and USB sockets is also in demand.
Helpers at Stations
Of course, there have been some issues with some journeys. "Passengers have to adjust to the extended travel times and get used to the new schedules," the spokeswoman said. On some journeys, not all displays have yet displayed the correct information.
At larger stations, helpers, also known as passenger guides, are in use. They will be available to help people with questions during the holiday seasons and the two weeks following.
150 Buses in Operation
The so-called Riedbahn is the first of 41 tracks that are to be fundamentally modernized by 2031. Until mid-December, tracks, overhead power lines, signals, switches, bridges, and stations on the stretch between Mannheim and Frankfurt will be modernized. According to the Bahn, this track section is one of the busiest corridors nationwide - and particularly prone to disruptions.
The regional transport is being replaced by buses. A total of around 150 replacement buses are in operation. Long-distance and freight transport is being rerouted via parallel tracks.
- The general renovation and modernization of the Frankfurt-Mannheim section of the Riedbahn, one of 41 tracks planned for upgrades by 2031, is currently underway in Baden-Württemberg.
- Between Frankfurt am Main and Mannheim, passengers are relying on substitute traffic services provided by German Railways (Deutsche Bahn), including 150 new buses, as a result of the ongoing renovation works.
- Despite some challenges, such as adjusting to extended travel times and new schedules, the bus substitute traffic has been running smoothly, with up to 15,000 passengers daily using the buses that run every five to 15 minutes.
- This replacement traffic is crucial for keeping the railways operational during the general renovation of the Riedbahn, which includes upgrading tracks, overhead power lines, signals, switches, bridges, and stations between Frankfurt am Main and Mannheim.
- To assist passengers with any questions or concerns during the holiday seasons and the two weeks following, helpers or passenger guides will be available at larger stations like Frankfurt am Main and Mannheim.
- In the interim, long-distance and freight traffic on the Riedbahn are being diverted via parallel tracks to minimize disruptions to traffic and ensure the safe and efficient transport of passengers and goods.
