clinic crisis - Association: Financial situation at all hospitals tight
After the financial alert of the Jena University Hospital, the Thuringian Hospital Association referred to the financial situation of other hospitals in the state. All other hospitals have been affected by insufficiently financed increased costs for years, according to a letter to CDU chief Mario Voigt, who had called for a special meeting regarding the Jena Clinic.
"The Thuringian Hospitals, including the University Hospital Jena, have been shouldering significant costs for necessary investments for many years," the letter stated. The call for a financing summit to ensure comprehensive hospital care was therefore explicitly supported.
Critical situation requires financial relief
Every decision that improves the financial situation of the Thuringian Hospitals - regardless of their ownership - will be welcomed. Other federal states have already implemented significant special programs for this purpose, according to the Association of Hospital Managers in Thuringia. A Thuringian health care system without a functioning University Medicine is hardly conceivable, and comprehensive patient care without community hospitals is impossible.
The University Hospital in Jena is struggling with financial problems due to higher prices for things like energy and wage increases, which have significantly increased expenses. The Land is currently considering a loan by the hospital in conjunction with a state subsidy.
FDP Landtag deputy Robert-Martin Montag pointed out that the situation at the Uniklinikum was complex, as it involved the Health, Finance, and Science ministries. The tasks of Thuringia's only University Clinic extend far beyond those of an acute care hospital, with research, teaching, and further education.
The Free State had announced that, due to the difficult financial situation of the hospitals, it would establish a guarantee program for clinics in financial distress. According to earlier reports, the volume of this program was planned to be 100 million Euro. The Land intends to secure loans that hospitals must take on to finance cost increases with these guarantees. However, the negotiations on this are still ongoing.
