Suspicion of arson - Arrest after fire in shelter for homeless

After a fire in a homeless shelter in Winnenden (Rems-Murr-District), a person has been arrested. The police reported suspicion of arson. According to their information, the person was accommodated in the city's shelter for the homeless. No statements were made regarding gender and age at first.

The fire reportedly broke out on a Sunday evening. The fire department evacuated the building and extinguished the fire. According to the current knowledge, there were no injured. A part of the affected building is no longer habitable, the damage is estimated to be around 200,000 Euros.

The arrest was made by the local police in Baden-Württemberg, linked to the Brand Foundation for investigating criminality related to the shelter fire in Winnenden. The suspect, who resided at the shelter, is believed to have started the fire, leading to significant damage and potential displacement.
