More specific forecasts are emerging regarding the weather in Germany in January. Consequently, the holidays are likely to be truly 'stormy'.

Most people in Germany will have to say goodbye to a White Christmas, as snow is expected only at higher altitudes. A sober forecast for snow enthusiasts comes after the stormy onset of winter at the beginning of the month.
This is the expected weather in Germany in January
The portal 'wetter.de' extensively examines the initial weather forecasts for January.
So, the hopes for snow enthusiasts are likely almost nonexistent, at least at the beginning of the new year. January is expected to start with rain, but moderately.
But that's not all. The ECMWF model anticipates that the end of the year will be overall too warm. According to wetter.de, the first half of January is expected to be 'too warm'.
What about the second half of the month?
Here, things are not as clear-cut. It's quite possible that from mid-January, the country could plunge into a bitter cold spell. According to forecasts, temperatures could then be eight degrees below the benchmark values.
A significant change in the weather situation should occur. For example, due to a disrupted polar vortex, which would make such a movement of cold air possible.
At the same time, those hoping for snow will be disappointed again. According to current forecasts, the likelihood of snowfall seems possible during the transition from warmth to cold, but after that, no white precipitation is expected. Overall, January is considered one of the driest months.
On the other hand, the American weather model NOAA has an entirely different plan for winter weather in Germany. According to this model, by the end of January, temperatures may be even two degrees warmer, and cold weather may settle over Scandinavia.
This would mean the maintenance of moderate temperatures and, above all, the absence of snow in Germany. As reported by wetter.com, in recent years, there has been a predominantly warm January trend.
Accordingly, the average over the last 10 years has mostly been above the average of minus 0.5 degrees. Therefore, January 2024 will be too warm. No surprises should be expected. The month will fully align with the climate trend.
