Elections - An old CDU election sign invalidates the election in Hennersdorf
The election of the Hennersdorf town council (Landkreis Mittelsachsen) must be repeated. The reason given by the municipal supervision is a breach of the neutrality regulation. The issue: Ballot boxes should have been picked up in a room that had previously served as a storage and holding area, which contained a hazardous substance - a CDU poster from the 2019 state election.
This was eventually also discovered during the ballot count. However, before the space was cleared, ten voters had already picked up their ballots. "The influence on the voting decision of the ten voters cannot be excluded," it was stated. The principle of equal treatment in elections, which was violated in this way, is a fundamental election regulation.
For the Hennersdorf town council, six seats were to be given out. Two went to the CDU, four went to a voter alliance. In total, 494 votes had been cast. Thirty of these - each voter had three votes - could have been cast under the influence of the CDU poster.
The repeated election in Hennersdorf's town council in District Mittelsachsen is necessitated due to a CDU poster from the 2019 state election being stored in a hazardous substance-contaminated room used during the ballot count. Ten voters had already picked up their ballots before the room was cleared, potentially impacting their voting decisions, which contradicts the principle of equal treatment in elections.
