Constance - An 85-year-old misses the runway with an ultralight aircraft
An 85-year-old pilot missed the runway of a airfield in Konstanz with an ultralight aircraft and slid over a meadow next to it. During this incident, the landing gear of the single-engine machine sank and broke in the meadow, according to a police spokesperson. The aircraft slid further several meters on its underside over the meadow. Both occupants of the machine remained unharmed in the accident on a Thursday.
According to initial findings, the pilot had intended to land the machine next to the start- and runway during the first approach. However, he was warned by the tower and took off again. During the second approach, the accident occurred.
The aircraft was significantly damaged. The damage assessment was not yet known. The airfield traffic was halted for approximately two hours due to the accident.
The incident occurred at the edge of the runway in Konstanz, which is located in the region of Baden-Württemberg. Despite the incident, the 85-year-old pilot and his passenger managed to escape an ultralight aircraft accident involving a single-engine machine without any injuries. The runway in question at the local airfield was closed for about two hours following the accident, involving an airplane that reportedly suffered substantial damage.
