Tennis - Alexander Zverev reaches the quarterfinals in Hamburg

Tennis player Alexander Zverev is in the Round of 16 at the ATP500 Tournament in Hamburg. The 27-year-old defeated Dutch qualifier Jesper de Jong 6:2, 6:2. On Thursday, Zverev will face Frenchman Hugo Gaston in the quarterfinals.

The fourth-ranked player, whose participation was uncertain due to a knee injury sustained at Wimbledon, took control quickly in his first appearance on the historic Rothenbaum court. After losing the first service game to de Jong without winning a point, Zverev became dominant. With a thundering forehand, he earned the break for a 2:1 lead. Zverev closed out the first set in 35 minutes with an ace.

The 24-year-old number 114 in the world was no major challenge for Germany's top tennis player in the second set. After 77 minutes, Zverev had completed his duty.

Alexander Zverev's victory in Hamburg secures his place in the ATP500 semifinals, as he prepares to face Hugo Gaston from France. This upcoming match will take place on the same court where Zverev, a German tennis star, made a powerful comeback against Dutch qualifier Jesper de Jong.
