Police and US Forces - Agreement with US-Military aims to make the region safer

The Westpfalz Police Headquarters and the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC) are now connected in a security partnership. The goal of this unique approach by the Rhineland-Palatinate Police, as stated by the Interior Ministry in Mainz, is to reduce and prevent traffic violations related to alcohol and drugs in the region. Michael Ebling (SPD), the head of the ministry, and US Major General and KMC Commander Paul D. Moga signed an agreement for this.

Among other things, the awareness of US military personnel regarding the laws on alcohol at the wheel and the legal consequences should be increased. Support offers will be provided, as stated. Regular meetings between military representatives and the police are also planned to develop strategies, exchange information, and evaluate the effectiveness of efforts.

Ebling: Collaborative work will bear fruit

"I'm excited that we are entering this new partnership with our American friends in Kaiserslautern, and I'm confident that collaborative work will bear fruit," emphasized Ebling. Moga emphasized that the safety and well-being of soldiers, their families, and all people in Kaiserslautern are of the utmost importance. "Alcohol-related incidents not only threaten public safety but also tear apart the fabric of our community."

The mayor of Ramstein-Miesenbach, Ralf Hechler, welcomed the agreement. "Everything that enhances security and a sense of security in the region is welcome," said the CDU politician.

Police: Focus on a larger target group

The Westpfalz Police Headquarters stated that alcohol and drugs are among the leading causes of traffic accidents. "The police are focusing on this cause. In terms of the total number of traffic accidents, the number of accidents under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is low," explained a spokesperson. Experience shows that the likelihood of being injured in an accident is higher when alcohol and drugs are involved.

"Therefore, the police are focusing on this cause through regular checks and accompanying prevention work to reach as many people as possible." Cooperating with US forces expands the target group.
